The Office examines international patent applications as to substance. Within 60 days after publication of the decision to grant a patent, any interested party may file a petition to oppose the grant before a Committee set up in accordance with IPL Art. 66.1. If there is no opposition petition the patent shall be granted.

Annual fees are payable in advance each year on the anniversary of the international filing date, beginning with the second year. Annual fees not paid within the applicable time limit may still be paid within six months from the expiration of that time limit but will be subject to payment of a surcharge.
